April 5 Hands Off Protest: Who is the driving force behind the anti-Trump movement and how can you get involved?
On April 5, the US will host the Hands Off protest, which is expected to be one of the largest one-day protests in recent memory.
As dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump's and billionaire Elon Musk's influence grows, the "Hands Off!" movement takes aim at both. Organizers have called it a National Day of Action, according to an Axios story.
Protest Hands Off: Who is driving the anti-Trump movement?
According to the movement's organizers, this will be one of the largest anti-Trump demonstrations since the start of the president's second term.
MoveOn is leading a coalition of progressive advocacy organizations organizing the Hands Off demonstration. The biggest gathering is anticipated to be in Washington, DC, where well-known figures from labor action and politics will speak.
According to advocacy group MoveOn, tensions are expected to rise around the United States on Saturday as over 250,000 demonstrators are expected to join an inflow of anti-Trump demonstrations.
More than 1,000 activities have been planned around the United States under the Hands Off protest.
Washington DV is anticipated to attract a sizable crowd of demonstrators to the National Mall.
Speakers and activities are scheduled to start at noon, so those who are interested in participating in the protests are asked to gather to Sylvan Theater by approximately 11 AM.
What are demonstrators protesting against with the hands off?
Hands Off demonstrators are expressing their disapproval of a number of Trump administration policies, such as the way the government has handled Social Security payouts, the firing of federal employees, attacks on consumer protections and anti-immigrant legislation, and attacks on transgender individuals.
The rallies, which come after a wave of protests at Tesla stores across the globe, also challenge Musk's connection with the federal government through DOGE.
"This is not only corruption," Hands Off! declared in a scathing statement posted on its website. This is more than just bad management. This takeover is antagonistic.
"They are taking whatever they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them," the Hands Off! campaign website said, criticizing Trump and Musk for believing they "control this nation."
