Following a retrial in New York, Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of sexual assault.

Following the overturning of a sex offenses conviction in the state last year, Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of sexual assault in New York.

During the six-week trial, a panel of five male and seven female jurors debated for five days before unanimously finding the disgraced film mogul guilty on one of three counts.

In addition to finding him not guilty of another allegation of sexual assault, the jury has not yet rendered a decision on the rape charge.

In addition to the conviction, Weinstein was found guilty of sex offenses in Los Angeles and is still serving a 16-year term.

The testimony of three women—model Kaja Sokola, actress Jessica Mann, and former television production assistant Miriam Haley—formed the basis of the trial. Weinstein was accused by all three of sexually abusing them by abusing his influence in the entertainment industry.

Weinstein was found guilty by the jury on Wednesday of attacking Ms. Haley, but not guilty of assaulting Ms. Sokola. They want to continue discussing the rape count on Thursday and have not yet rendered a decision regarding Ms. Mann.

Weinstein's prior conviction for sex crimes in New York was overturned by an appeals court last April, which concluded that the 73-year-old was not given a fair trial in 2020 because a judge permitted testimony from women who brought accusations against him that went beyond the specific counts.

In September, Weinstein was subsequently charged with another sexual assault in the state.

The trial was "fair until we got to the jury deliberations," according to a statement from Weinstein's representative.

The representative claimed that more than one juror had expressed dissatisfaction about other jurors' preconceived ideas and their use of Harvey's life story as proof of guilt. "We will investigate the important appellate issues that we feel exist."

Over the past week, tensions have hampered the jury's deliberations. The foreperson charged other jurors on Monday with "attacking" others and attempting to influence their opinions. He claimed that in reaching their verdicts, jurors were taking into account Weinstein's prior actions as well as other accusations that were unrelated to the case.

The judge stated that he would advise the jury to focus solely on the case's claims.

Due to his bad health, Weinstein, who has diabetes and cancer, stayed at Bellevue Hospital during the trial instead of Riker's Island jail. He attended the events in a wheelchair.

Ms. Mann and Ms. Haley, two women who made accusations against Weinstein for his 2020 trial, were at the center of the retrial in New York.

Additionally, it featured fresh claims from Ms. Sokola, a Polish actress and model who said Weinstein had sexually assaulted her when she was 19. He was acquitted of the assault on Wednesday by the jury.

The three ladies spent days testifying about the alleged sexual abuse they suffered at Weinstein's hands.

According to all three, they first crossed paths with Weinstein when they were young and searching for jobs in the entertainment sector. The women claimed that he then coerced them into meeting with him in private at his houses and hotels.

His attorneys had maintained that all of his sexual interactions with the ladies were voluntary and akin to a "friends with benefits" situation.

In an effort to undermine the women's credibility, Weinstein's lawyers displayed cordial correspondence that several of the ladies had with the movie mogul following the alleged assaults.

More than 100 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misbehavior, assault, and rape. Even while not every allegation led to criminal charges, the California conviction means he will probably be incarcerated for the rest of his life.

The #MeToo movement against sex assault by powerful men was sparked by his accusers' choice to come forward and his subsequent conviction in New York.

Weinstein and his brother Bob were two of Hollywood's most powerful people prior to the accusations against him.

Weinstein was a co-founder of the Miramax film studio, which produced successful films like Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare in Love, which took home the Academy Award for best picture.

Numerous civil cases have also been brought against Weinstein, including one from a group of women who claimed he had committed rape and sexual harassment. In 2020, a $19 million (£14.2) settlement was reached in the dispute.
