Following an allergic reaction, DHS Secretary Noem was admitted to the hospital.
According to a department spokesperson who talked to The Washington Post, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem was hospitalized on Tuesday following an allergic reaction.
According to DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin, Noem was taken by EMS to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution" and "is alert and recuperating."
Prior to joining President Donald Trump's cabinet, Noem was a strong supporter of the president while serving as governor of South Dakota. She currently oversees a large organization with over 260,000 employees that is in charge of disaster relief, border security, and other law enforcement duties.
Noem has led Trump's vigorous urban immigration enforcement, which includes the continuing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Los Angeles. The secretary pledged last week that the deportation arrests and ICE raids, which are a major part of Trump's immigration program, will go on throughout Los Angeles. Additionally, Trump has instructed Noem to "increase efforts to jail and deport" undocumented immigrants in Democratic-run cities like Chicago and New York, as well as to deploy ICE agents around the country.
There were no other specifics given regarding the allergic reaction.
