After Trump says the Tesla CEO is furious about the NASA appointment and EV credit, Musk responds, "Whatever."
Elon Musk has been criticizing President Donald Trump's massive tax bill, the president claimed Thursday, because the Tesla CEO is "upset" that the package does not include EV credits and that the president rejected his choice to lead NASA.
"Elon has really let me down. At the White House, Trump told reporters, "I have been a big assistance to Elon.
Musk swiftly retaliated against Trump on his social media platform, X.
"Whatever," the multibillionaire, who is the CEO of SpaceX and a number of other businesses in addition to Tesla, a prominent producer of electric cars, wrote.
Musk said, "Ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill, but keep the EV/solar incentive reduction in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are affected (very unjust!!)."
"There has never been such large and exquisite law in the history of civilization."
After Musk criticized what Trump refers to as his "One, Big, Beautiful Bill" for blowing up federal deficits, Trump finally spoke.
On Tuesday, Musk referred to the Senate-considered bill as a "disgusting atrocity."
Last week, Musk resigned from his temporary position in government, where he was in charge of DOGE, the Trump administration's initiative to reduce federal spending and staffing levels.
Musk contributed more than $250 million to Trump's 2024 campaign, making him the largest financial supporter of the campaign.
Trump said last weekend that he was removing Musk's preferred candidate, tech millionaire Jared Isaacman, to lead NASA, just after praising Musk for his government service during an Oval Office event.
The president stated, "You know, I have always loved Elon," on Thursday. "The bill is amazing, and I would much rather have him attack me than the bill."
