Trump is criticized by a former assistant for looking into a previous cybersecurity appointee.
Sarah Matthews, a former Trump White House adviser, speaks to the committee on January 6.
The Trump administration came under fire from former White House press secretary Sarah Matthews for looking into Chris Krebs, who was fired as director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in 2020.
In a post on the social media site X on Wednesday, Matthews stated, "I frequently warned before the election that Trump would target anyone he considered as political opponents."
"Now that it does not fit with his lies, he is punishing a public worker who just performed his job and stated the truth about the 2020 election being secure."
Along with former cybersecurity official Miles Taylor, a deputy chief of staff in the Department of Homeland Security during the first Trump administration, Krebs signed two memorandums on Thursday directing the Department of Justice to revoke Krebs' security clearance and conduct an investigation.
In a social media post, the president fired Krebs for refuting allegations that the results of the 2020 presidential election were faulty.
In answer to inquiries from reporters Thursday in the Oval Office, Trump referred to Krebs as a "smart guy."
"I did not know him, but I am positive I met him. Trump claimed that he came out immediately following the election, which was rigged—badly rigged.

"We performed incredibly well in that election," he continued.
Trump claimed Krebs had produced a "disaster" with his assertions that contradicted Trump and that further information about him will be revealed by a follow-up investigation.
"They cheated by using COVID." Additionally, as he is a wise man, we will learn more about him. "We have demonstrated that this election is the safest in our nation's history," the president declared.
"This was a catastrophe now."
