2025 Masters Live Leaderboard & Updates: Scheffler Steady, Rose on Fire

Augusta National never fails to deliver drama, and the first round of the 2025 Masters is already buzzing with highlight moments and leaderboard shake-ups. As Thursday's play winds down, it's Englishman Justin Rose who finds himself atop the pack, with a sensational 6-under performance through 14 holes. But right on his heels? World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, cool and collected, carding a bogey-free 4-under 68.

Scheffler’s Silent Charge

If consistency is king at Augusta, Scottie Scheffler just might be building his throne. The defending Masters champ didn’t need fireworks to make noise — just precision, patience, and a pair of jaw-dropping long putts. A 62-footer on the 4th and a 42-footer on the 16th gave his round the flair it needed, but otherwise, it was vintage Scheffler: fairways, greens, calm demeanor, and zero mistakes.

Rose in Full Bloom

While Scheffler was steady, Justin Rose was sizzling. At 6-under through just 14 holes, Rose reminded fans why he’s always a threat at Augusta. His iron play was razor sharp, and his putting — often the decider at the Masters — was clinical. He’ll finish the first round Friday morning, but if he keeps this rhythm, Rose could set a daunting target heading into the weekend.

Chasing the Leaders

Canadian Corey Conners matched Scheffler’s 68, sitting tied for second. Rory McIlroy, still chasing the elusive career Grand Slam, looked strong early with a 3-under front nine and is poised to make a statement if he can keep the momentum rolling.

Tyrrell Hatton also made waves with a solid 69, while a handful of others — including Aaron Rai, Jason Day, and Harris English — lurk at 2-under, within striking distance.

Course Playing Tough

Though Augusta is pristine as ever, the course isn’t giving away birdies easily. The second nine in particular has challenged even the best, with swirling breezes and pin placements demanding near-perfect execution.

What’s Next?

With plenty of big names still on the course and Friday promising ideal weather, round two could bring more leaderboard shake-ups. But for now, Justin Rose sets the pace, and Scottie Scheffler is exactly where he likes to be — calm, under the radar, and dangerously close.
