The wife of Weezer's bassist was shot by cops and is being held on suspicion of attempting to kill him.
Los Angeles (Newsource: AP/CNN) — After pointing a gun at policemen from her front yard, Jillian Lauren, novelist and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot and hurt by Los Angeles police and taken into custody on charges of attempted murder, according to officials on Wednesday.
Following the shooting in the Eagle Rock district of northeast Los Angeles on Thursday, the 51-year-old Lauren, who was identified by police as Jillian Shriner and recorded as Jillian Lauren Shriner in jail records, had non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the LAPD.
Requests for response from her agents were not immediately answered, and there is no proof that Scott Shriner was connected to the incident. On Saturday, Weezer will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol said they were helping them find three suspects in a misdemeanor hit-and-run. The suspects did not include Lauren. However, police found Lauren in the front yard of her neighbor's house with a revolver as they were chasing one of them who had apparently been racing through a backyard.
Police claim that woman pointed the gun at them after defying their repeated orders to lower it. She was hit by police gunfire and retreated into her home, where they took her into custody and sent her to a hospital, but they did not specify whether she fired the weapon.
According to a police statement, a 9-millimeter handgun was found in Shriner's residence.
