WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump kept the world guessing on Tuesday, saying “nobody knows” what action he might take in response to rising tensions with Iran — just as Iranian leaders issued a sharp warning to the United States against any potential military strike.
Speaking at a campaign event in Ohio, Trump was asked about reports that the U.S. is considering military options in response to recent attacks by Iran-backed forces in the region. “I don’t talk about military plans,” Trump said. “Nobody knows what I’m going to do. That’s the way it should be.”
His comments came shortly after Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a stern statement, cautioning Washington that any offensive move would be met with “a swift and crushing response.” The ministry called on the U.S. to avoid what it described as “strategic miscalculation” amid escalating regional instability.
While Trump is no longer in office, his continued influence over U.S. foreign policy — particularly among Republicans — has led global actors to closely watch his statements as he seeks a return to the White House in 2025.
U.S. intelligence agencies have reported increased activity by Iranian proxies in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, fueling concerns that a broader regional conflict could erupt.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has not publicly commented on Trump’s remarks, but a senior Pentagon official told reporters that “all options remain on the table” and that the U.S. is committed to protecting its interests and allies in the region.
With the Middle East once again on edge, Trump’s vague but provocative statement has added a fresh layer of uncertainty to an already volatile situation.
