Marina Mabrey’s Foul on Caitlin Clark Upgraded to Flagrant-2, Source Says

CHICAGO — Marina Mabrey’s hard foul on rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has been officially upgraded to a Flagrant-2, according to a source familiar with the league’s review process who spoke to the Associated Press.

The incident occurred during Monday night’s game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever, when Mabrey made aggressive contact with Clark in the third quarter. The play initially drew a common foul, but after postgame review by the WNBA, the league determined the severity of the contact warranted a harsher classification.

A Flagrant-2 designation is reserved for "unnecessary and excessive contact" and can carry disciplinary consequences, including fines or suspension.

The league has not yet announced whether Mabrey will face further punishment beyond the reclassification of the foul. The Fever won the game 88–83, with Clark finishing the night with 23 points and 8 assists.

This is the latest in a string of physical plays targeting Clark, who has drawn national attention — and tough defense — since entering the WNBA as the No. 1 overall draft pick.

Neither Mabrey nor the Sky organization have issued a public statement regarding the league’s decision.
