Trump fears that Putin will exact punishment for the drone strike in Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump has warned that Vladimir Putin will have to retaliate to Ukraine's significant drone attack on Russian airbases.

"President Putin did say, and very firmly, that he will have to respond to the terrible attack on the airfields," Trump stated following a phone conversation with the Russian leader.

In a social media tweet, Trump cautioned that the over one-hour phone conversation would not "lead to immediate peace" between Russia and Ukraine.

The two leaders also spoke about Iran, with Trump claiming that Putin had offered to assist in nuclear negotiations with the nation.

A request for comment has been made to the White House.

Putin reportedly warned Trump that Ukraine has attempted to "interrupt" the negotiations and that the Kyiv administration has "basically transformed into a terrorist organization," according to Russia's state-run news agency, RIA Novosti.

Additionally, it stated that the two "exchanged views on the prospects for reviving cooperation between the countries, which has immense potential."

The two presidents are speaking for the first time since Ukraine attacked Russian airbases under cover of smuggled drones on June 1st, claiming to have nuclear-capable long-range bombers.

Later, the Kremlin claimed that Trump informed Putin that the US had not been alerted before the strike.

Trump seemed to give Putin a two-week ultimatum last week, saying that if he thought Putin was still "tapping" him on peace attempts in Ukraine, the US would alter its approach to Russia.

Trump made a series of disparaging comments, including the one in which he claimed that Putin had gone "totally crazy" and was "playing with fire" as Russia increased its drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian targets.

Trump's statement on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday did not address a deadline or his earlier comments.

Ukrainian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, were scheduled to meet with US senators in Washington on Wednesday to talk about military purchases and efforts to halt the conflict.

Yermak stated on social media that the delegation will talk about sanctions against Russia, a rebuilding investment fund that had already been signed, and "military support and the condition on the battlefield."

The tweet also comes days after the warring parties agreed to exchange more prisoners of war during a second round of direct peace negotiations in Istanbul that ended without a significant breakthrough.

According to Ukrainian negotiators, Russia rejected Kyiv's and its Western partners' primary demand—an "unconditional ceasefire"—including the US.

Although they provided no additional information, the Russian delegation stated that they had suggested multi-day ceasefires in "certain sections" of the Ukrainian frontline.

Despite continuous frontline combat and aerial attacks in both Russia and Ukraine, Trump has stated time and time again that he thinks the two sides are moving forward.

Trump also claimed that he and Putin "were in agreement" that "Iran cannot get a nuclear weapon" during their conversation on the country.

According to reports, the US suggested that Iran stop producing any enriched uranium, which can be used to produce both nuclear bombs and reactor fuel, and instead rely on a regional consortium to supply it.

The strategy put up during negotiations last Saturday has not yet received a response from Iran.

Putin "indicated that he will participate in conversations with Iran and that he could, possibly, be helpful in getting this brought to a speedy conclusion," according to Trump claims.

Trump added, "I believe Iran has been taking a long time to make a decision on this crucial issue." "In a very short time, we will require a definitive answer."

Ayatollah Ali Khamanei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has criticized the US proposal and declared that it will not halt uranium enrichment.
