The San Francisco Giants send Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks to Boston in exchange for Red Sox star Rafael Devers.

It was expected that Buster Posey's first significant trade would be a huge one. It also made sense, even though the news that the San Francisco Giants had traded for Red Sox star Rafael Devers was so shocking.

It seems that Posey will make significant moves from the front office. The Giants acquired Devers, a three-time All-Star who provides much-needed left-handed power, on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Jordan Hicks, minor leaguers James Tibbs III and Jose Bello, and one of their best young starters, Kyle Harrison.

"This is a significant addition to the lineup," Willy Adames, the shortstop, stated. He was the kind of bat we needed. There are no words to express how thrilled I am.

Pitcher Logan Webb stated, "I think you give yourself a shot anytime you have a talent of that caliber." "You plug him in there every day." I am not sure where he will hit, but it does not seem to matter. Simply put, the dude is a stud. I am overjoyed about it.

Harrison, a 23-year-old left-hander who had been replacing Justin Verlander in the rotation while Verlander was out due to a pectoral muscle strain, was the Giants' top-ranked pitching prospect for a number of years. In eight appearances, four of which were starts, Harrison finished 1-1 with a 4.56 ERA overall.

"I told Kyle before he went that he is going to be a star over there," Harrison's buddy and mentor Webb said. "I think he is going to be fantastic, and I think it is an excellent landing site for him."

According to Webb, Harrison was taken aback by the abrupt change in circumstances.

"It had a shock factor," Webb remarked. He was raised in the Bay Area, which is terrible when you have been with a team your entire career, near your family, and you are getting ready to take on the best club and lineup in baseball, only to be yanked off the mound just before the game. It must be difficult, but he managed it expertly.

The Giants have a wealth of young pitchers, and because Hicks is part of the transaction, the team might trade down to Triple-A Sacramento for a pitcher like Carson Whisenhunt, who has a 3.93 ERA in a league known for its hitters.

At Dodger Stadium, left-hander Joey Lucchesi was in the team's bullpen and came into the game in the fourth inning, but the Giants made no announcement about the trade before the game or even after it had begun. At the beginning of the day, he was not included among the 40 men.

Hicks, 28, is presently on the disabled list due to irritation in his left toe from dragging his foot during delivery. He went 1-6 with a 6.47 ERA in 13 games, nine starts. He came extremely near to being sent to a treatment facility.

Last year, the Giants selected 22-year-old Tibbs in the first round from Florida State, where he was hitting. At high-A Eugene, 246 with 12 home runs in 207 at-bats. Bello was a 20-year-old Dominican Republic international signee. At the Arizona Complex League, he pitched 18 innings with 28 strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA.

Hicks may still be out, and Harrison was on his way to the Red Sox's Triple-A Worcester squad, but Devers will face his old team as Boston kicks off a three-game series at Oracle Park.

"We need someone like him in this lineup, and you see the stats every year that he usually puts up in Boston," Adames stated. "I know it is going to be an extra lift for us now, and when we get Chappy back, it is going to be a problem for the other pitchers."
