C.J. Mosley Announces Retirement After 10 Seasons in NFL

Veteran linebacker C.J. Mosley has officially called it a career. In a heartfelt message shared on social media Thursday, Mosley revealed he is stepping away from football after 10 seasons in the NFL.

“I spent my whole life and career building my legacy,” Mosley wrote. “Now, it’s time to start a new chapter with new dreams.”

Selected 17th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft, Mosley wasted no time making an impression. He finished second in AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting that year and earned his first of five Pro Bowl selections, along with second-team All-Pro honors.

Mosley played five strong seasons with the Ravens before signing with the New York Jets in 2019. His time with the Jets was impacted by injuries, including a neck issue that limited him to just four games in the 2024 season. The Jets released Mosley in March of this year.

Over the course of his career, Mosley played in 133 games and put up impressive numbers:

  • 1,083 total tackles
  • 12.0 sacks
  • 55 tackles for loss
  • 40 quarterback hits
  • 53 passes defensed
  • 12 interceptions
  • 10 forced fumbles
  • 9 fumble recoveries

Though injuries took a toll in his final years, Mosley’s impact as a leader and playmaker remained respected throughout the league. As he steps into retirement, fans and former teammates are already expressing appreciation for his contributions both on and off the field.

The Alabama product leaves behind a legacy built on toughness, intelligence, and consistency — and now looks ahead to writing the next chapter of his life outside the game.
