June 30, 2025 – Boulder, Colorado
Karen Diamond, an 82-year-old woman critically injured in a firebombing attack during a pro-Israeli march in Boulder earlier this month, has died from her injuries, prosecutors confirmed on Monday. Her death has escalated the case to a potential capital punishment trial.
Diamond was among those wounded on June 2 when an attacker hurled Molotov cocktails at a group marching in support of Israeli hostages. Authorities identified the suspect as Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national, who reportedly shouted pro-Palestinian slogans during the assault. The act has been widely condemned as antisemitic.
Following Diamond’s death, Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty announced upgraded charges, including first-degree murder, against Soliman.
The incident shocked the Boulder community and drew national attention, with many mourning the loss and denouncing the violence as hate-fueled.
At the site of the attack, mourners like local resident Hanna Rose Shell have created a small memorial in Diamond’s honor, placing flowers and tributes where the tragic incident unfolded.
The investigation is ongoing, and prosecutors have not ruled out pursuing the death penalty.
