Trump cautions House Republicans against opposing his bill while on Capitol Hill.

In an effort to increase support for his big tax and immigration bill, President Donald Trump visited Capitol Hill on Monday and cautioned House Republicans against opposing the bill. When asked if GOP stalwarts ought to take on primary opponents, Trump said, "Perhaps." Before meeting with Republicans behind closed doors, he addressed reporters. Trump is attempting to quell opposition from conservative Republicans who have expressed worries that the bill does not go far enough in reducing spending by promoting it in person. A key component of Trump's plan, the bill will test his ability to influence hesitant members.

The House GOP's revised bill targets health coverage for immigrants.

The House Rules Committee is set to vote on a revised version of the House Republican budget reconciliation measure early Wednesday morning, which further cracks down on states that offer health coverage to immigrants.

Under the 2010 health care law's expansion, states that offer Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program coverage to pregnant individuals and lawfully residing children would be eligible for a reduced federal matching rate for Medicaid enrollees.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who has been a challenging group to win over as he works to pass the larger funding package by the end of the week, is likely to find the move appealing.

Democrats have vehemently opposed the bill's provision that would penalize the 14 states and the District of Columbia that pay for some undocumented immigrants with their own funds.

KFF, a health policy research group, estimates that over 1.9 million individuals may lose their health coverage if those states discontinue or reduce their programs to avoid the penalty.

The plan "would throw millions of Illegal Aliens off of Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in actual need," according to a post made by President Donald Trump on Truth Social on Friday.
