"A movement is brewing": Saturday's anti-Trump demonstrations are scheduled around the country.
People have been gathering on the streets of big cities, small towns, state capitals, and the nation's capital for weeks to voice their disapproval and incredulity at the way President Donald Trump is leading the country.
On Saturday, hundreds of venues across the nation are anticipated to host the greatest demonstration by far. A few grassroots organizations have scheduled 1,000 rallies, marches, or protests across the country, and over 500,000 people have RSVP'd to attend.
According to Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn, "April 5 is really about saying, 'Hey folks, let us all come together in one day and show the power of our voices and guarantee our voices are heard about what we are witnessing coming out of this administration and to fight back on these harms.'"
Instead than expecting everyone to congregate in a few major cities, organizers hope to bring protests to the individuals who wish to join, according to Hunter Dunn, spokesman for one of the groups, 50501 for 50 states, 50 capitols, one day.
"We want to create that area for those large-scale demonstrations, but we also want to ensure that you may leave your house and begin to resist if necessary. We have a home for you if that is all you can accomplish," Dunn remarked.
Longstanding organizations like Indivisible, Women's March, MoveOn, Working Families Power, and Public Citizen, as well as grassroots organizations like 50501 that have been around since Election Day, are among the hosting organizations.
Anticipated to be the biggest, the celebration in Washington, D.C., begins at noon at the Washington Monument. It is expected to be far larger than the People's March, which took place the weekend before Trump's second inauguration, according to organizers. Here is a feed of the protesters.
The first lady's staff rescheduled the annual spring garden tour of the White House for Sunday, citing the planned protests on Thursday. Trump will not be able to escape the protests while visiting his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, even if he is not planned to be in Washington. There will be several demonstrations in the Palm Beach region.
"Those who believe that law enforcement, lawsuits, and protests can dissuade President Trump must have been living under a rock for a number of years. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told USA NEWS TODAY in a statement that President Trump will not be dissuaded from fulfilling his pledges to improve the effectiveness and accountability of our federal government to the hardworking American taxpayers nationwide who re-elected him by a landslide.
