Potential travel ban: According to officials familiar with the matter, the Trump administration is considering targeting citizens of up to 43 countries as part of a new travel ban to the United States that would be broader than the restrictions imposed during President Trump's first term. South African diplomat removed: President Trump's administration has officially expelled South Africa's ambassador to the United States, according to a spokeswoman for the South African president on Saturday, calling the move "regrettable." Secretary of State Marco Rubio has singled out the ambassador, Ebrahim.

President Donald Trump has suggested the next batch of agencies to be eliminated as his administration seeks to reduce the size of the federal government.

In a late Friday executive order, Trump eliminated several smaller departments and organizations that provide a variety of federal functions, ranging from homelessness to library funding.

The directive stated that the agencies and offices' federal grants will be evaluated and "eliminated to the utmost extent compatible with current law."

It is the next phase in the administration's elimination of government bodies that Trump considers "unnecessary," and it comes after weeks of the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, dismantling entire departments, cutting off finances, and initiating mass layoffs of federal personnel.

One of the more notable names on the list is the United States Agency for Global Media, which oversees US government-funded media channels around the world, including the Voice of America.

Trump has been a vocal critic of VOA, which distributes news to millions around the world, since his first administration. Before his inauguration, he stated that he wanted former TV journalist and failed Arizona candidate Kari Lake to lead the channel; she has subsequently been made a special adviser to USAGM.

USAGM also administers Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia, which proponents claim is one of the government's most effective instruments for combating Chinese propaganda. According to POLITICO, Radio Free Asia plans to begin furloughing some employees next week.

The order also establishes the Minority Business growth Agency and the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, both of which support economic growth for minority firms and low-income neighborhoods. Trump has campaigned against departments and agencies that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and upon taking office, he issued an executive order to abolish DEI from the government.

The remaining agencies are the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars at the Smithsonian Institution, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Following that order, Pete Marocco, a prominent State Department official who was also responsible for the destruction of the United States Agency for International Development, was appointed as the Inter-American Foundation's board chairman. Following that, all board members and personnel were sacked or sent on leave, and the foundation was effectively shut down, according to court filings and a DOGE post.

The United States African Development Foundation, another independent body included in Trump's last executive order, went to court to avoid being taken over, but lost when a federal judge denied their plea for a temporary restraining order.

As of Friday, the additional agencies on the list had seven days to certify their compliance to Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought.

Trump is already receiving criticism for dismantling the agency. Many of the organizations targeted in recent weeks were formed and funded by Congress, allowing Trump's administration to push the boundaries of executive power.
