🎆 Fourth of July 2025 in Houston: What’s Open — and What’s Closed?



Houston is gearing up for a patriotic weekend filled with fireworks, festivities, and neighborhood barbecues. To help you plan, here’s a refined guide on which services and businesses are on holiday break — and which are keeping their doors open.

🏛️ Closed on July 4 (Federal Holiday)

Government offices, courthouses, post offices, and public schools — all observing the holiday 

Banks and stock markets (NYSE/Nasdaq) — closed Friday; markets also closed early on July 3  .

U.S. Postal Service, FedEx (regular service), UPS pickups/deliveries — suspended for the day  .

🛍️ Retail & Grocery: Open with Adjusted Hours

Open (some with reduced hours):

Walmart & Target – operating their usual schedules  .

Home Depot – open until 8 p.m.  .

IKEA – open until 6 p.m.  .

Best Buy, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar General – open (pharmacy hours may vary)  .

Sam’s Club – open until 6–8 p.m. depending on location  .

Trader Joe’s – open until 5 p.m.  .

Whole Foods, Kroger, H‑E‑B – open, with stores and pharmacies operating until late afternoon/evening  .

Closed Nationwide:

Costco – shuttered for the holiday  .

🍔 Dining In or Takeout: Plenty of Options

Major chains around Houston will welcome diners with adjusted hours or regular service. Chains such as:

McDonald’s, Starbucks, Chick‑fil‑A, IHOP, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, KFC, Dunkin’, Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebee’s, TGI Fridays, and more will be open  .

Keep in mind local restaurants may have unique hours—best to check in advance.

🚍 Transit & Public Services

Houston Metro will run a Sunday schedule for buses, METRORail, and curb-to-curb services  .

Park & Ride limited to IAH-Downtown route.

Customer service centers open 8 a.m.–5 p.m., but RideStores, HOV/HOT lanes, METROLift offices are closed  .

Solid Waste Management: No trash or recycling pickup today—expect delayed service  .

Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park (4–10 p.m.), with live music and fireworks  .

Street closures begin July 2 and remain through July 5, with peak restrictions from 8 a.m.–11 p.m. on the 4th  .

Houston Symphony’s Star Spangled Salute at Miller Outdoor Theatre (fireworks ~8:30 p.m.)  .
