Trump Urges House GOP to Quickly Pass Senate Crypto Bill Without Changes
USA NEWS TODAY- June 19, 2025
Former President Donald Trump is pressuring House Republicans to swiftly approve the Senate’s newly passed cryptocurrency bill without modifications, calling for a "clean" version to land on his desk "LIGHTNING FAST."
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, late Wednesday, Trump urged lawmakers to avoid delays and resist adding any amendments to the bill, known as the GENIUS Act, which establishes the first federal regulatory framework for stablecoins—digital tokens pegged to the U.S. dollar.
“Get it to my desk, ASAP — NO DELAYS, NO ADD ONS,” Trump wrote.“Digital Assets are the future, and our Nation is going to own it. We are talking about MASSIVE Investment, and Big Innovation.”
The Senate passed the GENIUS Act on Tuesday after months of bipartisan negotiations. Supporters view the legislation as a foundational step toward making the U.S. a global leader in digital finance. Trump echoed that view, calling it an “incredible bill” that will make America the “UNDISPUTED Leader in Digital Assets.”
House GOP Faces Internal Debate
While House Republicans broadly support stablecoin legislation, some are reluctant to rubber-stamp the Senate version without changes. House Financial Services Chair French Hill (R-Ark.) and others are considering whether to package the Senate bill with broader crypto legislation that would address market structure and regulatory oversight — a move that would delay passage and send the bill back to the Senate.
A House version of stablecoin legislation passed out of committee in April, but key differences remain between the two chambers. Hill’s office said he “looks forward to continued collaboration with our members and House leadership as we work toward a path forward.”
Some GOP lawmakers worry that passing the Senate bill as-is could weaken momentum for the larger package aimed at defining how digital assets are overseen by federal regulators, including the SEC and CFTC.
Senate Pushes for Quick Win
Senate Republicans, led by Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), are urging the House to move quickly, fearing that adding complexity would risk the bill’s viability in a divided chamber that still requires 60 votes for most legislation.
“We have an opportunity to put a win in place for the American public and have it ready for the president to sign before the Fourth of July,” Hagerty said.
He warned that if the House combines the bill with broader crypto reforms, it could bog down the legislative process and threaten passage altogether.
As the House weighs its next move, Trump’s public intervention has added urgency — and political pressure — to an already complex legislative equation.
